Palm Beach House

The site fronts a harbour beach on Pittwater in Sydney's Northern Beaches and has its entry and garages on a quiet Palm Beach street.

The brief was to convert three apartments in two existing buildings into one family house.  The original 1950's brick buildings have been wrapped and perforated by recycled hardwood bay windows, staircases, sunrooms and verandahs giving much better thermal performance and a more sheltered and private life for the inhabitants.

"The architects approach has been to leave the existing brick core in place, like a box, and manipulate from within while softening the edges with the addition of a new predominantly timber overlay."
