Official re-opening of the Gunnery Transformation + Artspace
We are pleased to announce the official reopening of Artspace inside the NSW State listed heritage Gunnery in Woolloomooloo, Sydney. This completed work establishes the 120-year-old brick warehouse as an internationally significant public institution; one part of a cultural ribbon and urban landscape that connects a sequence of arts and culture venues including the new Sydney Modern, Sydney Opera House, and the foreshore of Woolloomooloo Bay.
The result of our revitalisation provides a series of world class gallery, studio, and education spaces for Artspace, a daring and vibrant organisation that grew out of the artists’ squats that occupied the building from the 1960s to 1980s. Our longstanding relationship working together with Artspace meant we could be true collaborators – not afraid to be honest, open, and boundary-pushing. The completion of this important project ensures Artspace have a home that allows them to work in ways that are ever changing, ever challenging, and endlessly inspiring.
The official opening weekend started today and runs until tomorrow Saturday December 16, where free exhibitions, events, and programs will be showcased in the new gallery spaces.
A big thank you to Artspace, Create NSW, NSW Public Works, and FDC Construction & Fitout for all your work over the last 30 months!
