The Tree House shortlisted at the 2024 NSW AIA Awards

We designed this two-storey addition to a federation-style house to be centred around a spacious kitchen and dining area that encourages family gatherings and shared meals. The form of the Tree House became a simple, orthogonal shape cut around three established palm trees. Looking outwards from the main bedroom upstairs, the palm’s crowns are framed on a background of dense native foliage, offering a tranquil space for retreat.

The product of a decade-long relationship with the client, the design of this house has evolved from a shared belief in a bioclimatic approach to architecture that minimises its footprint and impact on the environment. We are excited to see how it will continue to adapt to serve future generations.

We’re proud to announce that the Tree House has been shortlisted in the Residential Architecture – Houses (Alterations and Additions) category for the 2024 Australian Institute of Architects Architecture Awards.
