Enhancing community + sports
Ward Oval Multipurpose Hall
Part of the Ward Oval Precinct Masterplan proposal to enhance existing communal amenities and sporting grounds.
Challenge
The Ward Oval Multipurpose Hall is a single-story structure providing a large community hall, toilets and changing rooms alongside the main Cobar oval. Multiple studies of the location of the new Multipurpose Hall were done as part of the Ward Oval Precinct Masterplan proposal to finally identify the most advantageous location for new and enhanced supporting amenities.
Response
The location of the Ward Oval Multipurpose Hall was determined by its ability for easy accessibility and visibility to the public. It’s central placement on the northern edge of the existing sports oval allows easy viewing of ongoing sports and activities. The new amenities are largely informed by a ‘wishlist’ gathered from 75 survey responses from the Cobar community and includes a commercial kitchen, bar, canteen, public bathrooms, and a change room for home and away teams for the sports fields. It will service the Cobar Show and various sports and community events throughout the year.
The Ward Oval Multipurpose Hall is currently under construction and is expected to finish in February 2024. After which, refurbishment work on the existing Show Pavilions located west to the Multipurpose Hall will commence and upon its completion will act as an extension to the new hall and continue to service the annual Cobar Show.
