DA Approval: Aboriginal Healthcare Centre in Bourke

Render by DunnHillam

The plans for a new Aboriginal healthcare centre for Bourke Aboriginal Community Health Services have been lodged for development approval with Bourke Shire Council. This is a significant milestone for the community who have worked hard over many years to make this project a reality.

Our engagement with the local community helped us develop the design to incorporate metal scales of browns, greens and yellows  inspired by the yellowbelly fish – a native and culturally significant species found in the nearby Darling River.

The community needed 10 flexible consultation rooms for permanent and visiting health practitioners and a communal multi-purpose space, all of which are designed to connect with the land and sky outside to create a healthy and culturally comfortable environment for visitors and staff.

Outside, the courtyard garden is a space for gathering and exploring. Our collaborators Taylor Brammer Landscape Architects have created productive community gardens with culturally significant native edible and medicinal plants and places for people to come together.
